Writing

It is our intention at Grange Lane Infant Academy School to provide pupils with a high-quality education in English that will develop pupils’ ability to speak, read and write with great fluency, master the mechanics of both reading and writing and develop a love and a true interest for English so that they can communicate their thoughts, ideas and emotions effectively.  We believe this will equip them with skills to become lifelong learners.

In the EYFS at Grange Lane we intend to develop children’s writing abilities by developing their fine motor skills. We understand that it is crucial that children are able to build strength in their small muscles that control their hands, fingers and thumbs to enable them to become confident writers. We aim for children to develop a love for creative writing by providing purposeful mark-making opportunities that are linked to scenarios and pupil’s interests.

Writing is an integral part of the EYFS where new knowledge and skills build on what has already been taught before.  All children in the EYFS are provided with many opportunities to develop and apply their writing skills across the curriculum; to have the stamina and ability to write at the age expected standard.  It is our intention that pupils develop a clear understanding of the writing process in order to establish themselves as an author in their own right.
