Design Technology

Our design and technology curriculum creates learners who are practical and skilled in developing products that solve real-life problems. Through our key drivers, we develop our pupils to be confident risk-takers who are well-prepared and resourceful.

Our key drivers are:

  • Nurturing enquiry, progressive development of skills, creativity and practical learners
  • Problem solving through design to make the world a better place
  • Building and expanding technological language and knowledge throughout their primary year

Pupils learn about past and present technology and develop an understanding of its impact on daily life and the wider world. The design and technology curriculum provides opportunities to solve meaningful problems.  They build technical skills and knowledge needed to undertake everyday tasks and become confident in using computer-aided technology to ensure they are prepared for our ever-changing advancing world.

Pupils will learn how to create imaginative products with a purpose. They test and evaluate their design ideas and products; critique their finished product and offer feedback to others. Pupils will be inspired by different engineers, designers, chefs and architects and understand how their products have changed the world they live.

The strands in design and technology are:

  • Food and Nutrition
  • Construction
  • Mechanical components
