Music

The Arts curriculum at Grange Lane Infant Academy encompasses a wide range of subject areas including; Music, Drama, Dance and Art and Design. The curriculum is designed to provide children with a platform to be creative, to express themselves, find success and share experiences, talents and abilities through performance. At Grange Lane, we are committed to providing all children with opportunities to engage and succeed in the Arts.

The National Curriculum focuses on the development of skills and knowledge and the use of vocabulary, which builds on the skills and knowledge previously taught, which work towards the defined statements in which children aim to achieve. The Arts subjects are taught explicitly throughout school, which link to the units of work. The Arts subjects may also be included other subjects, through the use of exciting ‘scenario-based hooks’ and ‘launches’ into learning or continuous provision, creating a cross-curricular environment. Arts also allows us to promote British Values by allowing children to express themselves in their own unique and individual ways.

Very similarly, within the Early Years Foundation Stage, the development matters focuses on the children being able to experience and gain a particular set of skills and knowledge and vocabulary. This foundation of skills and knowledge is set and ready for the children to build on, throughout their journey through education. Arts is taught discreetly within Foundation Stage, allowing the children to explore, as they feel comfortable and confident too. The Early Years Provision allows the children to have access to a number of Arts Activities during one session, through the use of continuous provision, which again links to the unit of work being taught. The continuous provision also provides children with equal opportunities to explore the curriculum as an individual.

Therefore, the curriculum at Grange Lane is taught at an age-appropriate level, which is inclusive and allows children to explore and express the arts in their own unique ways. The children appear to enjoy the arts curriculum throughout the whole school.
