Being a firefighter

All year groups, including our 2 year old children, were able to discover some of the equipment you would need to be trained in using if you joined the fire service. All the crew were from Rossington Fire Station and grew up in and around Rossington so kindly volunteered their time to show the children the fire engine including the satellite navigation equipment, the 2 way radio, the safety clothing and of course how they would put out fires!

Year 1 also got to experience the crew taking a real life emergency call and quickly had to make way for the engine to leave the school and attend the situation – it was all very exciting!

What was also brilliant was that one crew member who previously attended Rossington All Saints Academy has recently been given a full time position with the South Yorkshire Fire Service after volunteering and being an on call fire fighter and all this at just the age of 19!
