Resources for talking to your children about coronavirus


1. For younger children, this picture-based book helps to explain coronavirus and provides opportunities for children to talk about how they feel - The book is available in 18 languages.

2. This colourful guide will help to answer your children’s questions about coronavirus and has some good ideas about how to help your child make the best of their time at home

3. This website has short videos about coronavirus and fun ways to talk about hand-washing

4. This is a free information book explaining the coronavirus to children, illustrated by Gruffalo illustrator Axel Scheffler

5. Sheffield’s Children’s NHS Trust website has some really clear, simple visual resources that you can print and use. They provide communication boards and social stories that cover a range of topics including school closures, coronavirus, washing hands and being at home.

7. The National Autistic Society has a page of handy tips for autistic people and their families

8. The YoungMinds UK provide advice on what to do if your child is anxious about coronavirus. This might be more useful for teens and young adults. The main focus is on self-care and they provide further information about how young people can look after their mental health if self-isolating.

If your child is under the Speech and Language Therapy service, you can call our admin team on 01302 644958 and request that a resource is printed and sent out to you.
